Tips for Writing a Book – Part 1

Hey, Dawn Damico from Your Research Diva. I wanted to talk to you today about how to get started writing that first book that you are just dying to write.

Most people are walking around with a book in their head. They just need some help to get those words out of their head , onto paper, and get their first book written.

I’m going to give you 3 tips today to help with that process.

Tip #1 – Why are you writing the book? Like everything in life, a strong WHY will keep you going when things get tough. When you run into writer’s block, or the words are just not flowing and you’re getting frustrated, remembering why you are writing will keep you going.

Tip #2 – Who is your audience. Identify who you are writing for, but don’t be surprised if there are other audiences, that you haven’t thought of, that will pick up your book and love it. It could be mothers, parents, single moms, working moms, entrepreneurs, people who love to cook or travel, etc.

Tip #3 – What would you like the reader to walk away with? When they get to that final chapter and close the book, what do you hope that they will walk away with? It could be that you just want them to feel good, you may want to share an inspirational message, or you may want them to take the tools and tips that you gave to them and implement them in their business and lives right away.

What this does is give you a destination, a target. As you go through the writing process, you keep that end goal in mind. It’s like a great vacation. In order to get to your destination you have to know where you are going. However, just like a great vacation you may find that there are a lot of side trips that you can take along the way. And, that’s OK. Those side trips can sometimes bring some great surprises. And, you may also find that you end up at a completely different destination that is actually better than the initial destination that you were shooting for.

So, lot’s of options there but start out with an idea of where you want to go with your book.

I’m going to throw in a fourth tip.

This is actually how a lot of my clients end up getting their first book into print. Be sure watch the video to discover if you have already written your book and don’t even realize it!

So let me tell you about what I can do to help you if you choose to get some assistance along the way, which a lot of people do.

I do a lot of writing, and I do ghost writing for other people.

I can help you get your content, your idea, organized and written for your book:

    1. Create a book from your blog
    2. Take what you have already started, and polish it up, editing for a final product
    3. Take your idea and using your suggested sources and others that are available, ghostwrite a book for you based on your project idea.

Here’s my challenge for you. When you are done watching this video…write your first page. It doesn’t have to be good, it doesn’t have to be perfect…just write your first page.

I have many more tips to share with you, but don’t want to overload you today. If you go to the site and give me your email address, I’ll keep you updated as new writing information is released.
